“Full throttle from the beginning”

What is your current role?

As head of PR in our Marketing Division, I’m responsible for developing and implementing PR strategies and action plans at Paidy. The scope of PR encompasses three key imperatives: Corporate PRーbuilding a great corporate reputation; Consumer PRーincreasing our brand awareness as a daily essential shopping method (Okaimono no Tomo) for consumers; and, Governmental Relationship (GR)ーlaying the groundwork for our company’s reputation and support of our business.

What points attracted you when you decided to join Paidy?

In addition to the exciting opportunity of contributing to the growth of the Paidy brand “from 1 to 10” by leading a wide range of PR activities, I was particularly attracted by the interviewers who I met during the hiring process (our CMO, CEO etc.) I was moved that in the final interview our CEO emphasized that Paidy wants to provide all employees with exciting growth opportunities.

What kind of work was the most fulfilling for you so far?

I joined Paidy just a half year ago; however, I wanted to highlight my expertise at the launch of 3-Pay service (3 kai atobarai). When I joined, the main PR tool in Paidy was press releases. Therefore, I wanted to go beyond that and organize multiple PR activities including a press event to lead the successful launch of our 3-Pay service. At the event, we invited merchants and influencers to deliver their voices to both the business/IT media and consumer media. I believe the event was a big success as we’ve received a lot of qualitative exposure on TV, in newspapers and on the Web.
Apart from that, I have started “data-driven PR” to showcase how consumers enjoy shopping with Paidy. I'm pleased that there has been a lot of media interest and positive feedback in it and I will continue to introduce this kind of data.

What culture in Paidy is the most attractive for you?

First is speed. I started creating our PR strategy just three days after entering Paidy. It literally put me into “full throttle” mode from the beginning of my employment. Second is flexibility. I’m given the flexibility to do whatever I think is beneficial for the company’s growth here. At Paidy, everyone respects others and their ideas regardless of the title so those who prefer to initiate and lead their own multiple initiatives (like me) should feel comfortable. Furthermore, we can work with both an abundance of information and trust as the organization continuously makes efforts to be transparent.

What type of talents would you hope to work with?

Working with people who always think about how to do something better and work hard together as a team to produce outstanding results is important. If I am only talking about PR roles, then those who are interested in catching up with latest social trends, are flexible enough to incorporate those trends into their way of thinking without any stereotypes, and ideally to bring some positive energy to the team - those are the types of talents that fit Paidy’s PR culture and working style.

Please give a message to those who are considering joining Paidy.

I believe that Paidy will ultimately change how consumers shop in Japan and become a service that provides more people with room to dream. I truly look forward to working with new talent that believes in our future and elevates our brand together!
