"Joy at work originates from what I achieve with my team"

What is your current role?

I am the head of the Payments Engineering department in the Engineering & IT Division. The role of my department is to build and maintain the core payments systems that Paidy's consumers and merchants rely on each day. We also work closely with large merchant partners on solutions that make their Paidy integrations seamless and easy.

What point attracted you when you decided to join Paidy?

I joined Paidy five years ago, in early 2016, as a software engineer. One of my friends worked at Paidy at that time. I became interested in the company and its lean engineering team. It was a very different organization back then: much smaller, in a different office, with less merchants and consumers. There was lots of code to write and things to build, but also room to grow, learn, and define your own role. One of the first big projects that I partially led was replacing the initial MVP system with a service-oriented architecture. Everybody worked extra hard to achieve this goal and to make Paidy successful.

What kind of work was the most significant achievement for you so far?

Joy at work originates from what I achieve with our team. One example was the launch of the integration with one of the key merchants in 2019. The requirements from the merchant were quite different from past cases, and it dramatically pushed the engineering organization and the company as a whole forward. I worked as the Technical Manager of the integration and had many discussions with the managers and engineers from the merchant. We defined, for example, how the customers would add Paidy as a payment method, how they would use Paidy during check-out processes, and so on. Later, I oversaw big parts of the implementation that my team and other engineering teams at Paidy were doing. It was a huge and complex project but ultimately we could make it happen together.

How would you like to grow yourself going forward at Paidy?

Since my start at Paidy I've had different roles and responsibilities: software engineer, tech lead of various engineering teams, solutions architect, project manager, ... I stepped up and raised my hand whenever there was a need. I am now in a position where I am responsible for large merchant integrations and Paidy's core payments infrastructure, and I manage a team of people. For the future, I hope to keep working with a lean and empowered engineering team, and to further develop my leadership and management skills.

What type of talents would you hope to join Paidy and work with? 

Somebody who is really interested in growth, who wants to get things done, and who looks for challenging and interesting work. I learnt from my past experiences that a good team can accomplish great things. In that sense, team building and cultural fit are essential.
